Today we’re watching Dear Evan Hansen at Solaire Theater. No, this won’t be a review hehe. I just feel extra happy that my husband and friends enjoy musicals too—mas masaya when you can share the experience.
I still remember about two years ago when I asked Precious, Kevin, and Maika if I could tag along with them to watch Jon Santos’ Bawat Bonggang Bagay. I really wanted to see it but had no one to go with. Ang galing ni Jon Santos, especially with his improv that night.
Watching theater shows, plus discovering drag shows, slowly reignited my love for the arts—the excellence of the performers, the creativity of the production, the stage design, the music, the colors—lahat. When I was younger, I liked graphic design, but I never really saw myself making a career out of it. Maybe that’s why I enjoy being an audience so much… parang nahila nalang ako haha.
With my self-diagnosed stage and video fright, I could never do what they do—singing, dancing, improv, telling stories in front of a live audience. It’s a kind of courage, excellence, and talent I deeply appreciate and respect.
Since my husband already loves movies and concerts, I started inviting him to musicals and drag shows. Over time, we’ve watched Hamilton, Miss Saigon, The Lion King, Spelling Bee, One More Chance, Tabing Ilog, and more. And for drag, he even promised me one show a month in 2025—12 shows in total (haha yesss!).
Posting about these shows on IG and FB also sparked interest. Friends started messaging me whenever they wanted to watch too. Suddenly, we were going to musicals, concerts, and drag shows together. There was even one time 17 of us went to a drag show, and another time there were 20 of us. Field trip?! Hahaha. Later at DEH, there would be 10 of us 🙂
I’m just glad I rediscovered this love for the arts. Every time I watch a live performance, I leave inspired. The excellence, energy, and presence of the artists on stage remind me to strive for that same level of excellence in my own life—at work, with clients, with my husband and kids, and with family and friends. lahat na hehe.
Of course, I said strive. When I feel that inspiration fading, I look forward to the next show—whether it’s a drag night with Precious and the Divine Divas, another musical, or a concert. Live performances always fill me up again. Tara na, let’s watch!
